Interactions
Drug :- Antacids (including sodium bicarbonate) and laxatives containing aluminum,
magnesium, or calcium, antidiarrheals:
May decrease antibiotic absorption. Give antibiotic 1 hour
before or 2 hours after these drugs.
Ferrous sulfate and other iron products, zinc:
May decrease antibiotic absorption. Give drug 2
hours before or 3 hours after iron.
Hormonal contraceptives:
May decrease contraceptive effectiveness and increase risk of
breakthrough bleeding. Advise patient to use nonhormonal contraceptive.
Live-virus vaccines:
May decrease vaccine effectiveness. Avoid administering together.
Methoxyflurane:
May cause nephrotoxicity when given with tetracyclines. Avoid using together.
Oral anticoagulants:
May increase anticoagulant effect. Monitor PT and INR, and adjust dosage.
Penicillins:
May disrupt bactericidal action of penicillins. Avoid using together.
Retinoids:
May increase risk of pseudotumor cerebri. Avoid administering together.
